Fairview Heights State School is in it’s 6th year of Literacy Pro.
On average our students read an average of about 60 million words per year since we have started Literacy Pro.
We have seen an improvement in reading comprehension, independent reading and an increase of books being borrowed and read from the library.
Each year our school purchases 200 new books that are lexile levelled with a quiz attached so that there are always new books for students to read. These books are in a variety of levels and interest.
Our school conducts fun competitions or challenges throughout the year to encourage students to keep reading!
Literacy Pro is our Independent Reading Program for years 4-6 and an extension program for some readers in year 2 and 3. Students achieve a lexile level and borrow books of interest in their lexile range. Students read the book and then complete a quiz about that book. If students achieve 7/10 or above they earn points and can win prizes and certificates.
