Prep students at Fairview View Heights State School are involved in a variety of learning activities to improve oral language, gross motor skills (e.g. climbing, skipping, ball skills) and fine motor skills (e.g. threading, cutting, painting). The children engage in play experiences which focus on high levels of problem solving and communication skills.

Prep students attend a specialist music and physical education lesson once a week. Our prep students learn computer skills and are engaged in Digital Technology learning experiences. They borrow from the school library.

Years 1 to 4

'Words Their Way' is used in conjunction with 'Jolly Phonics', daily writing, literacy groups and whole class instruction on basic spelling rules.

Words Their Way Program is the spelling program devised to help children undestand how letters go together to make sounds and why certain words are similar in sound, even though they use different letters to make the sound.

Year 4

Students may wish to be involved in:

  • Instrumental music – students may wish to learn a brass or woodwind instrument under the guidance of instrumental music yeacher Mr Phil Ryan.
  • School musical - term 3. Students can audition for roles in the musical.
  • Wood working lunchtime activity – volunteers work with a group of 10 students each term to make timber projects (pencil boxes, letter racks etc).

Year 6

Year 6 students who have consistently demonstrated Fairview Heights State School expectations over their time at school are invited to be members of the student council.

Students may be elected as School captains, music and sports captains. Each of these roles hold responsibilities which our students fulfil. Our student council is a strong, vibrant body which is busy promoting our school, modelling expectations, fund raising and supporting other students.
